Matt Johnson of Dothan, Ala., continues to march toward his fourth
straight Player of the Year award, but another four-time winner and a
one-time past champion are zeroing in on his lead.
Johnson has three victories this season and leads the points race with
347.5. Mike Riley, who won Player of the Year four times beginning in
1997, won at Windswept Dunes in Freeport, Fla., in May and lost in a
playoff at Brewton, Ala., in June and now has 336 points.
Jerry Halfacre of Cantonment, Fla., the 2005 Player of the Year, is
third with 282 points after beating Riley on the first playoff hole at
Brewton.
Jeff Cummings of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., leads the B Division with
258.33 points. Brian Jones of Pensacola, Fla., is second at 208.
Cumings has won the B Division twice this season and there five
different winners in the other events.
