Gulf Coast Scratch Tour Scorecard Instructions

Players are required to keep both their competitor’s score on each hole and his individual statistics (i.e. fairways hit, greens, etc.). There are appropriate boxes on each scorecard for these stats. The best method is to check with the competitor after each hole to ensure accuracy in recording both the player's score and the appropriate statistics for the hole.

Circle ALL birdies and Eagles. This is particularly important for the skins game we run each week.

In the “Fairways” and “Greens” boxes under each hole, simply mark an “x” in the box if the player hits the fairway or green. If he doesn’t, leave it blank.

In the “Putts” box, mark down the number of putts the player made ON THE GREEN. Putts from the fringe, even if only an inch or two off the green, counts as chips, not putts.

The “In Sand” box has additional requirements. If the player's ball lands in a greenside bunker, put an “x” in the box. If he gets up and down from the bunker, place a circle around the “x”. If a player leaves his first shot in the bunker, you put another “x” in the box. If he gets up and down on the second one, then circle the second "x.". If he fails to get up and down on neither, then leave just the two “x’s” in the box.

Another example: If a player lands in a bunker, and then blasts his shot onto the fringe of the green, and then holes the putt for his par, the proper way of scoring that would be no "x" in the green box, one "x" with a circle around it in the sand box, and zero in the putts box.

At the conclusion of the round, after the player's score has been totaled, the marker must also total the stats for his fellow competitor. Fairways and greens hit and total putts are relatively simple to add. As for sand saves, you record them as total "sand saves." In other words, if the player got up and down one time, and failed on two other occasions, you would put "1-3" in his total box.

If you are in doubt as to how to record a statistic, then make a note on the card and ask for a decision after the round.
